"To be nobody but yourself-- in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else-- means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting."

The Building Blocks of Energy
|
|
In its most basic description, energy is "the ability to do work."
You are no stranger to work. As an astute leader who is actively engaged in building your health as one of your most valuable business assets, you give daily homage to the powerful energy management practices of sleep, nutrition, physical movement, and stress management. (Seeking a refresher on the building blocks of energy? Check out the Fueling Your Fire archives).
Gold Star and A+! Your efforts to honor your health continue to build your capacity to impact every facet of your life.
Have you given any thought recently to why you want to increase your ability to have impact in every facet of your life? What is your unique reason for being here? You know, your... eeegads (gulp)... "purpose"?

The Energy of Purpose
|
|
The energy of purpose is found at that juicy junction of Who You Are, What You Value, The Goals You've Set, and How You Spend Your Time. It answers the fundamental and, often, trepidation-inducing question,
"What am I here to do?"
What are you here to do? A most elemental--and, therefore essential--life-guiding question. So why do so few of us ask it? Are we scared we won't uncover an answer? Or, more likely, are we scared we will uncover an answer and won't have the courage to do anything about it?
Fear not, Curious George. What if you told yourself that you didn't have to do anything with the answer, you were just "doing a bit of research" for the moment? |
An Exercise in Curiosity and Discovery
|
|
First things first--put your intellect aside. That big brain of yours is too powerful and is masterful at tempering possibility thoughts with "should," "ought to," and "can't."
Start by sitting some place that you feel comfortable, supported and safe. Commit to yourself that there is no judgment on any thought or idea that comes to you--be curious and bold!--and be willing to allow your heart and spirit to be heard. Remember, you can always go back and consult your intellect if you want, but allow this exercise to be guided by your heart. Try having a tablet near you so that you can jot down thoughts/ideas as they come to you. Remember, no filtering! Just trust yourself to explore every avenue. Trust that you have all the wisdom you need to find the route that is most supportive of your highest good and the means to explore and bring your gifts to the world.
Ask yourself the question, "What am I here to do?" If you're scared the answer you receive might just be an empty text bubble above your head, mull over these questions to get your wisdom-seeking juices flowing:
- When in your life have you felt most vibrant? What was the context? What elements were present?
- Where do you get your energy? What activities make you feel alive? When do you feel like you receive more energy that you give?
- What is your unique gift to the world? What is the one thing that, if you chose not to express it/celebrate it/live by it, would forever be lost to humankind?
Remember, no pressure (you're just doing a "bit of research"). Let every fun, crazy, and inspiring idea have space to play out in your thoughts. Creativity and possibility thinking don't co-exist with "can't" and "shouldn't."
